**** PLEASE REPLY TO MY CLASSMATE AS ME PLEASE DO NOT CRITIQUE HER POST JUST REPLY AS A REGULAR STUDENT APA FORMAT PLEASE REFRENCES MUST BE WITHIN 5 YEARS **** THIS IS THE DISCUSSION POST - Identify a population that you will likely serve as an advanced registered nurse that you think is particularly vulnerable to issues of health disparity/inequity. Discuss the contribution of your particular specialty to health promotion and disease prevention for this population. How do issues of diversity and global perspectives of care contribute to your understanding of health equity as it relates to this population? MY CLASSMATE POST- Health inequities or disparities, according to the CDC, is defined as the preventable difference in the burden of disease, injury, violence, or in opportunities to achieve optimal health (CDC.gov,2022). This preventable difference is most often experienced by populations who are socially and financially disadvantaged. The prevalence of social and financial disadvantage is most often present in people of color and the communities they live in. People of color, according to dictitionay.com, refers to people who are not white. Many health disparities burden the community of people of color. They are affected due to lack of the ease of access to healthcare due to the inability to afford or the knowledge base to understand and utilize funding provided by the government for preventive care. There are thousands of people who are of color who live in the United States, who do not understand the importance of routine care. They have never had a physical exam, basic blood work, in some case routine immunizations all related to a lack of knowledge. This is the community I desire to serve as a FNP. The role of advanced practice nurse, family nurse practitioner, is to provide primary care for patients at all life stages. The main goal of the family nurse practitioner is the prioritization of preventive care for the patients they serve. As a family nurse practitioner, I will strive to meet my patients where they are focusing, specifically on people of color. The role of the FNP is necessary in communities where people of color lack the knowledge of what quality, optimal health means. Cultural diversity will give the FNP the opportunity to engage the patients that is being served while respecting cultural boundaries and differences. According to the text, the provider must develop a relationship that is built on trust with their patients and coworkers by interacting with openness, understanding, and a willingness to hear different perceptions (DeNisco, 2019). The health disparities that are faced by people of color are evidenced by mortality rates, disease prevalence, and lack of knowledge regarding the importance of routine health exams. Though these health indicators have improved for most Americans, many people from racial and ethnic minority groups experience a disproportionate burden of preventable disease, death, and disability compared with non-Hispanic White people (CDC.gov, 2022). The role of FNP serving the community will enable the provider to bridge the gap in healthcare for these racial and ethnic minority groups by creating a welcoming environment where the patient will understand that there needs, and cultural differences will be respected. Treating patients from birth through life will improve healthcare outcomes and patient life expectancy. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. (2022).
